|There are a lot of lessons that we can learn from the Israelites including a warning against 'stinking thinking'. Even though God had set His people free from slavery in Egypt, they didn't successfully change their mindset. Rather than trusting in God who had already rescued them, they missed the full freedom that God was offering them because they failed to believe. |
“And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.”
When Moses sent out the 12 spies to survey the land that God had promised to them (Numbers 13), only Joshua and Caleb believed that God would be faithful to His promise. The other 10 spies saw the circumstances and allowed fear and unbelief to cloud their thinking.
Joshua and Caleb are a picture of a church who has faith.
The 10 spies are a picture of a church who misses the mark.
God has called His church to take the Kingdom of God with us everywhere we go. He has called us to take ground spiritually and physically. He has put dreams in our hearts and has proven His character in His faithfulness towards us. The question is, are we going to trust God, living from a place of faith and belief, or will we follow the example of the Israelites who failed to live in the full freedom that God had on offer for them?
