Ps Amanda Busstra - Sunday - 12th December 2021
Last Sunday, Ps Amanda kicked off our Christmas theme
Prepare the way for the Lord
by looking specifically at the miraculous birth of John the Baptist and the faithful lives of his parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth.
Isaiah 40:3 - A voice of one calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
700 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah prophesied that one would come who would prepare the way for the Lord which reminds us that God is constantly at work, orchestrating events and inviting us to trust Him as we wait on Him. Zechariah and Elizabeth were just two people within this larger story, yet their faithful trust in God's grace set an example which we can learn from.
1. They were Faithful
Though they hadn't seen the answers to their prayers, still they continued to live faithfully for God
2. They witnessed the Grace and Goodness of God
Despite Zechariah's weakness, God proved Himself to be both gracious and good. When we are faithless, God is faithful.
3. Zechariah and Elizabeth responded with praise
Praise is the only appropriate response to God
