|Wouldn't it be nice if getting from A to B in life was as a straight path? Where there was no uncertainty of our direction, and never any obstacles? Realistically, most of us would likely choose the path of least resistance if we had the option, and yet, that is not what the journey of life looks like. Rather, no matter how well planned we think we are, there will always be things that come up which are not part of our plan and which seem to take us off course. However, Paul reminds us in Romans that we can have confidence that in the midst of our mistakes, our brokenness, our pain, our insecurities, our failures, our weaknesses, and our mess, God is at work in the big picture and the individual details of our stories. |
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
So what do we do in this space of between A and B when it doesn't line up to our dreams or expectations?
1. Live with confidence
Our confidence is not in our ability to keep it all together or in our circumstance, but in God's faithfulness, goodness, kindness, grace, and ability to hold on to us.
2. Keep your eyes on Jesus
The story of Peter reminds us that our future is not defined by our past. Rather, God will turn our mess into our message if only we call out to Jesus.
God is continually and graciously inviting us into
this trust relationship where we choose His ways, even when it doesn't make sense. Will you trust Him this week with the things that make sense and the things that don't? Will you trust Him with your future? Will you trust Him enough to walk by faith and not by sight?
